UTI's and Urinary System Infections
The urinary system consists of the kidneys, bladder, ureters (tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder) and the urethra.
Urinary tract infections are a common infection that affects one or multiply parts of the urinary system.
UTIs are usually caused by bacteria and can be acute and often chronic or recurrent.
Common symptoms of a UTI include:
Burning on urination.
Needing to urinate urgently.
Urinating more frequently than usual.
Feeling the urge to go but only passing a few drops.
Pain in the pelvis.
Smelling urine.
Cloudy, bloody, pink or dark urine.
Lower back pain.
Fever.
UTIs are often treated with antibiotics, however over time and persistent use they have been shown to be ineffective and are not addressing the underlying cause of the condition. It also has been shown that Antibiotics can cause other digestive problems with repeated use over time, see here my other blog post on IBS.
Low (acidic) pH Levels In urine may be to blame for frequent UTIs. UTIs typically occur when bacteria, such as E. coli, fungi and viruses enter through the urinary tract and multiply in the bladder. It has been said that these fungi and virus can lay dormant (remission) in an alkaline ph and flourish when levels drop resulting in UTI's.
The Ph of the urinary tract has been shown to be closely determined by the Ph levels of the Gut. The gut bacteria of the colon (small and large intestines) have a large impact on the bacteria levels of the whole body which includes the urinary track.
Addressing gut health, eliminating food intolerances and gut inflammation while correcting ph levels have been shown to correct recurrent UTI's and restore good health. In my clinic as well as addressing diet i also look at other underlying factors for example: Heavy metal toxicity, hormone imbalance, food intolerances and environmental toxicology which may be hidden contributing factors and ph disruptors.
